Ascension Thursday, also known as the Feast of the Ascension of our Saviour Jesus Christ, is a special day for Christians around the world around the world.
On this day, they celebrate Christ's ascension into Heaven or when Christ went back to the Father on the 40th day after Resurrection. Depending on the year, this day falls between April 30 and June 3.
"Therefore, when they [the disciples and the risen Christ] had come together, they asked Him saying, "Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?"
And He said to them, "It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
"Now when he had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up and a cloud received Him out of their sight..."
(Acts 1:4-9, New King James Version).
Today’s feast of the Ascension of the Lord should fill us with great confidence and enthusiasm.
We who believe in the transformational value of following the teachings of Jesus can also make this effective in our lives and in the lives of others.
God’s power is at work in each one of us.
So let us pray,
Lord, you have kindled in our hearts the hope
that our lives can be transformed.
Guard this hope with your grace,
through your power, let it have effect in our lives
and bring it to fulfilment in the kingdom of heaven.
