We recently had the pleasure of welcoming a student from Swansea University to Mildmay Hospital for their elective placement.
Kimberley's experience at Mildmay will have offered a unique glimpse into the complexities and rewards of working within our specialised environment. We hope she gained valuable insights into the care we provide for patients with HIV and other complex needs.
We are confident that Kimberley's time at Mildmay will serve as a stepping stone on her journey to becoming a fantastic clinician. Her eagerness to learn and her commitment to patient care were commendable.
Thanks to Professor McK and the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science at Swansea University for entrusting us with their talented student. Kimberley's presence enriched our hospital community, and we are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to her development as a future healthcare professional.
Mildmay's legacy extends beyond pioneering HIV care. For over 160 years, the hospital has been involved in training nurses and clinicians. Since the 1860s, Mildmay has fostered a tradition of excellence in enhancing healthcare education. This commitment also ensures our staff remains at the forefront of medical knowledge and best practices, allowing them to deliver the highest quality care to our patients.
Mildmay presents a unique learning environment, and students have a wide range of opportunities to develop their general as well as specialist knowledge and skills during their placement here. They can work closely with the multidisciplinary team consisting of a medical team led by a medical director, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, a dietician,
physiotherapists, an occupational therapist, a speech and language therapist, nurses, healthcare support workers, a therapies assistant, a social worker, a drug and alcohol worker, multi-denominational Chaplains and volunteers.
Kimberley's experience epitomises the value of student placements at Mildmay. We are not only dedicated to providing exceptional patient care but also helping to develop the next generation of compassionate and skilled healthcare workers. We would be delighted to welcome more students from Swansea University in the future, as we already do from numerous other institutions such as UCL, Kingston, Manchester, Edinburgh and City Universities.
