Mobile Dental Clinic Comes to Mildmay

Mildmay Hospital welcomed the Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust’s mobile dental unit today.

This invaluable service brings essential dental care directly to those who need it most. Many of our patients face significant challenges, including homelessness and substance misuse, which can have a profound impact on oral health. Patients can lead chaotic lives and struggle with oral hygiene, often only seeing a dentist when things have got really bad and they are in pain. The mobile dental unit offers a lifeline, providing treatments such as cleaning, fillings, dentures, and extractions.

The Kent Community Health NHS Foundation Trust van works a rolling rota across several London boroughs, including Tower Hamlets, and has links with several homeless services, day centres and missions.

The dental team on board - including a dentist, a dental assistant, an admin assistant and a driver - usually see eight to 12 patients at a time.

We are very grateful for the work of the mobile dental team, who work to improve the oral health and overall well-being of our patients. Their compassion and expertise make a tangible difference in the lives of vulnerable people.

By facilitating accessible dental care, we are not only addressing the immediate needs of our patients but also contributing to their long-term health and self-esteem.
