We are delighted to congratulate our Patron, Prof Lord Darzi, on his recent appointment to lead an independent investigation into the NHS.

Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham has been appointed by government ministers to lead an independent investigation into the performance of the NHS. Prof Lord Darzi, a world-renowned, pioneering surgeon and healthcare leader, brings a wealth of experience to this crucial role. His task is to assess the current state of the NHS and identify opportunities for improvement.

Lord Darzi's own life experiences have profoundly shaped his commitment to healthcare. A childhood encounter with illness sparked a lifelong passion for healing. He has since become a pioneer in minimally invasive surgery and a strong advocate for quality patient care.

The NHS currently faces significant challenges, with long waiting lists and pressure on the majority of its services. Lord Darzi's review will delve into these issues, examining the root causes and potential solutions.

While the specific areas of focus for the review haven't been announced, it's likely that improving quality of care will be a top priority. Lord Darzi has previously emphasized the importance of this aspect in ensuring a strong NHS. He says, “My work will analyse the evidence to understand where we are today – and how we got to here – so that the health service can move forward. This is an important step to re-establishing quality of care as the organising principle of the NHS.”

This review comes at a critical time for the NHS. We look forward to Lord Darzi's insights and the positive impact they can have on the future of healthcare in the UK.
