Last week, we welcomed Lord Ara Darzi on his first visit to Mildmay. We're thrilled to welcome him as our newest patron, bringing a wealth of medical expertise, innovation, passion for the NHS, and support for Mildmay Mission Hospital.
Our President, The Rt Hon the Lord Fowler MA KT PC, and Chair, The Very Revd John Richardson, hosted a reception to show Lord Darzi and other guests around Mildmay and to meet some of our incredible staff!
Lord Darzi said, "As Mildmay’s newest patron, I was honoured and moved by my first visit to the hospital. Witnessing the exceptional care, compassion, and innovation shown by the healthcare professionals at Mildmay Hospital has made a strong impression on me. I am inspired by the courage and resilience of the people they serve.
I am delighted to support this remarkable institution and its dedicated staff, and I look forward to working with them to advance their mission of providing outstanding healthcare, promoting holistic well-being, and making a lasting impact on the lives of patients and communities they serve."
Our guests praised Mildmay as a "first mover" and a trusted centre for HIV and homeless care in London, providing holistic rehabilitation, care and support to our patients. They expressed their amazement at the quality and breadth of our Multidisciplinary Team; the Nursing Team (and its low vacancy rate), and the excellent condition of the wards and individual patient rooms; the Rehabilitation Centre, the Assessment Centre and the range of professionals that make up our Therapies Team.
We spoke about the work of our Social Work Team and, in particular, our Housing Support, and they were very impressed that we have this service for our patients. They also commented on the cleanliness of the hospital, bearing in mind how busy we are.
Lord Fowler noted that in spite of being a small unit, we are "delivering much more than the vast majority of hospitals".
