Theresa is October/November's MVP!

Updated: 6 days ago

Geoff congratulations theresa and awards the prize voucher.

We’re very pleased to announce the October/November 2024 MVP award winner: Theresa, Substance Misuse Recovery Worker!

“Theresa is always ready to help with a smile.”

Theresa has a key role in supporting patients with substance misuse issues, and helping them on their path to recovery.

  1. Assessment and Care Planning: They assess patients’ needs and develop personalised care plans to address their drug or alcohol dependency, often collaborating with doctors, nurses, and mental health professionals.

  2. Emotional and Practical Support: They provide emotional support and advice to help patients understand the effects of substance use and the benefits of recovery. They may also offer practical guidance on coping strategies, relapse prevention, and life skills to support long-term sobriety.

  3. Delivering Therapies: Recovery workers often facilitate one-to-one counselling or group therapy sessions, focusing on behaviour change, motivation, and coping mechanisms.

  4. Liaison with Other Services: They coordinate with social services, housing providers, and community addiction support teams to ensure a holistic approach to recovery, including aftercare following discharge.

  5. Health Education: They educate patients about the physical and mental health impacts of substance misuse and the benefits of reducing or quitting drugs and alcohol.

  6. Monitoring Progress: Regularly reviewing a patient’s progress and adapting the care plan as needed to ensure that recovery goals are met.

In a hospital setting, these workers help patients transition from inpatient care to community-based support and are key in preventing relapse and fostering long-term recovery.

Well done to Theresa and to all the nominees who were recognised by their peers for their fantastic contributions to patient care at Mildmay.

Mildmay’s Monthly MVP Awards

The MVP Awards at Mildmay Hospital were created by one of our former physiotherapists, Josh Pedro. Recognising the need for an additional layer of appreciation beyond the annual staff awards presented by our Trustees, Josh wanted to celebrate our resilient and hardworking staff in a fun and engaging way. Though Josh has since moved on to new endeavours, his colleague Asterios has valiantly taken up the mantle of organising the awards.

Aim

The MVP Award is designed to highlight the remarkable contributions that our staff make daily - often unnoticed. By shining a light on these moments, we bring regular goodwill and recognition into the workplace, ensuring that our team receives the appreciation they truly deserve.

Description

The Mildmay MVP Award is a bi-monthly, staff-led initiative where all employees—across clinical, non-clinical, and support roles—can nominate and vote for their peers. From life-saving interventions to small gestures that brighten someone’s day, every contribution is valued. There’s no hierarchy, and every team member is eligible.

In response to feedback, we’ve shifted to bi-monthly awards, making each one a bit rarer and therefore even more special. After nominations are collected, staff vote in an open online poll, with all nominees publicly recognised.

Prize

Winners receive a gift voucher for a store of their choosing, a token of appreciation for their dedication.

What is an MVP?

In sports and social media, MVP stands for “Most Valuable Player”—someone whose contributions stand out above the rest. At Mildmay, it represents our most outstanding team member, chosen not by management but by their peers, recognising their invaluable contributions to the team.
