Until 2014, a sign on Hackney Road directed people to Mildmay Hospital via Austin Street.
When the old Mildmay Mission Hospital building was demolished and the surrounding street layout reorganised - creating the peaceful Tabernacle Gardens, where the new Mildmay Hospital now stands - that sign was removed.
In the years since, we’ve received occasional feedback that Mildmay has become a little harder to find, even with modern conveniences like mobile phones and services like Google Maps and What3Words. While these tools have undoubtedly made navigating easier, we realised that something as simple as a clear, visible sign on the main road could make all the difference for those unfamiliar with the area.
Enter George, who heads up our facilities and services. He reached out to the London Borough of Tower Hamlets to request a new sign to help the public locate us more easily. We’re happy to report that the council responded swiftly, and in no time at all, a brand new sign has gone up on Hackney Road, clearly marking the route to Mildmay Hospital.
We’re grateful to Tower Hamlets for their prompt support, and we hope this makes it easier for everyone - whether patients, visitors, or delivery services - to find us quickly and without confusion.
We are very pleased to see our sign back in place, a small but significant change that ensures Mildmay remains easily accessible to those who need our specialised care.
Thank you, Tower Hamlets, for helping us make a difference.
